Improving Your AI Coding Agent Without switching the Model or touching the harness
Microsoft’s SkillOpt shows how AI coding agents can improve through self-evolving skills without retraining the model or rebuilding the agent harness.

Spotify expanded its suite of creator-focused artificial intelligence tools on Thursday, announcing an ElevenLabs-powered audiobook generation feature for its Spotify for Authors platform alongside ongoing efforts to deploy AI-generated podcast and music customization tools.

The new audiobook tool, launching in invite-only beta this June, allows writers to self-publish digitally narrated books without binding them to exclusive distribution contracts. The announcement comes amid a broader push by Spotify to integrate generative AI across its platform, including a high-profile licensing agreement with Universal Music Group (UMG) for user-prompted song remixes.
The ElevenLabs-powered tool will live within the Spotify for Authors dashboard. The feature is scheduled to debut in beta next month on an invite-only basis, initially supporting English-language narration.
The integration builds on an existing partnership that allowed authors to upload pre-recorded ElevenLabs projects to Spotify. By hosting the generation tools directly on its platform, Spotify aims to streamline the self-publishing pipeline for independent writers.
Crucially, Spotify confirmed that authors using the AI narration tool will not be bound by exclusive contracts. Writers remain free to distribute their generated audiobooks to competing platforms, a decision that contrasts with traditional platform exclusivity models.
Beyond spoken-word content, Spotify is also targeting music customization through generative AI. A licensing agreement was done with Universal Music Group that lets Premium subscribers generate custom remixes and covers using text prompts.
The remix tool operates as a paid add-on service for Premium subscribers. To address industry concerns over intellectual property, the system allows artists to opt out of the remix program entirely. Participating artists will collect royalties on any user-generated remixes streamed on the platform.
The UMG deal represents the first commercial product resulting from a broader coalition. In late 2025, Spotify announced collaborative efforts with UMG, Sony Music Group, Warner Music Group, Merlin, and Believe to establish guidelines for "responsible AI products."
The audiobook tool launch coincides with a broader international expansion of the Spotify for Authors platform. Spotify announced at its Investor Day event that it is adding support for 10 additional languages, including French, Canadian French, German, Dutch, Latin American Spanish, Swedish, and Finnish.
While the ElevenLabs narration tool is restricted to English at launch, the platform expansion suggests Spotify plans to scale its digital narration capabilities globally. The company previously partnered with Google Play Books to offer digitally narrated content, but the ElevenLabs deal provides access to more expressive voice models.
The rollout of these tools highlights Spotify's strategy of balancing rapid AI deployment with industry guardrails. For the music remix feature, Spotify and UMG established three core principles: choice in participation, fair compensation, and the preservation of artist-fan connections.
By routing royalties from fan-made AI remixes back to the original artists, Spotify hopes to mitigate the legal and financial friction that has characterized early generative AI music platforms. The opt-out mechanism further ensures that artists retain control over their digital likenesses.
