Google has announced the release of its new AI model, Gemini 3.6 Flash, which is faster and cheaper than its predecessor, Gemini 3.5 Flash. However, the highly anticipated Gemini 3.5 Pro remains in testing and will not be released this month as initially planned.

Enhanced Capabilities of Gemini 3.6 Flash

The new model, Gemini 3.6 Flash, boasts improved capabilities in coding and enhanced multimodal features. According to Google, these improvements were made in response to user feedback on the 3.5 release. The new model now supports computer use as a standard feature in the Gemini API, too.

Performance Improvements

In the DeepSWE test for coding, 3.6 Flash jumps to 49 percent versus 37 percent for 3.5 Flash. The OSWorld test for computer use shows a marked improvement as well.

Impact on Developers

Developers and users who were looking forward to the Gemini 3.5 Pro will have to wait a bit longer. However, the release of Gemini 3.6 Flash provides a new option for those who need a more efficient and cost-effective model.

Future Developments

Google is already training Gemini 4, indicating that the company is not slowing down in its AI model development.

"The changes to 3.6 Flash were made in response to user feedback on the 3.5 release," said a Google spokesperson.
