Anthropic releases Opus 5 with capabilities close to Fable 5

Anthropic launched its latest model, Opus 5, on Thursday, asserting that it 'comes close to the capabilities of Fable 5 in many domains' and excels at complex coding tasks.

Opus 5, while smaller than Fable 5, offers similar capabilities at a lower cost and with fewer restrictions. According to Anthropic, Opus 5 outperforms Fable 5 on several benchmarks and is free from the 30-day data retention policy that affects Fable and Mythos.

Following recent cybersecurity concerns raised by the US government, Anthropic has integrated additional safeguards into Opus 5. This model is better equipped to handle complex coding tasks and is more robust against potential cyber threats.

Release Timeline

Opus 5 was released just two months after Opus 4.8, which became available on May 28. Mythos 5, Fable 5, and Sonnet 5 were all launched in June, leaving only the Haiku model waiting for an upgrade to the 5 series.
