Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.8 on Thursday, introducing a "dynamic workflows" feature in research preview and updated training designed to make the model proactively flag errors and uncertainties in its own output. The release comes just 41 days after the launch of Opus 4.7, marking an unusually rapid upgrade cycle for the company's most advanced model tier.
The update targets developer complaints regarding model reliability and hallucination rates in production pipelines. According to Anthropic, early enterprise testers report that Opus 4.8 is significantly more conservative when handling ambiguous data, reducing the frequency of unsupported claims and silent code failures.
Honesty tuning and error reduction
Anthropic has been putting in effort to address the tendency of LLMs to confidently present incorrect conclusions. In internal evaluations, Anthropic claims Opus 4.8 is roughly four times less likely than Opus 4.7 to allow flaws in its generated code to pass without remark.

The model also introduces a variable effort control allowing developers to specify how much computation Claude allocates to a task. Under this system, higher-effort responses consume more tokens, while lower-effort settings allow users to conserve their rate limits on simpler queries.
Bridgewater Associates, an early tester of the model, noted that the primary differentiator in the upgrade was the model's tendency to proactively flag issues with both inputs and outputs.
